EVERGLADES RADIO NETWORK GAINS NEW PARTNER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fort Myers, FL, September 14, 2004 - TKW Consulting Engineers, Inc. recently joined a partnership to support the Everglades Radio Network -- an environmental educational radio program that shares information with motorists traversing the famed River of Grass along the hour-long stretch of Interstate 75 known as Alligator Alley. Offering around-the-clock environmental news, nature reports and emergency bulletins, the Network made its debut broadcast in February from Florida Gulf Coast University.

"As motorists cross River of Grass, the Everglades Radio Network brings the vast watery landscape alive,” said Department of Environmental Secretary Colleen M. Castille. “TKW’s sponsorship expands the Network’s efforts to provide insight into native wildlife, Florida history and the massive feat of environmental engineering that is restoring Everglades."

The magazine-style continuous broadcast from WFLP-LP or WFLU-LP (FM 98.7 or 107.9) features facts about the Everglades’ ecosystem, its wildlife and habitat, along with a history of the Everglades and the natural and man-made forces affecting its future.

Serving as a vital link to more than 18,000 motorists daily, the Network also enhances highway and public safety by airing emergency weather bulletins, travel advisories and Amber Alerts along the reversible hurricane evacuation route linking Southwest and Southeast Florida.

“TKW is thrilled to be a founding contributor for the launch of the Everglades Radio Network,” said Trudi Williams, Director of Business Development for TKW Consulting Engineers, Inc. “Our firm is committed to such endeavors that foster greater awareness about the Everglades, its restoration, and the role it plays in the environmental heritage of the state and country.”

The Network, which broadcasts from Fort Myers public radio station WGCU, is the result of more than four years of work by the Florida Departments of Environmental Protection and Transportation, and the Division of Emergency Management. This is the first FM version of the narrowly targeted “highway advisory radio” in Florida. The low-powered signal can be heard along Alligator Alley in Collier County, with plans to increase the Network’s reach further along the highway.

Founded in 1989, TKW offers consulting services in civil, environmental, and structural engineering, surveying, and environmental science throughout Florida and nationwide. For more information about Everglades Radio Network, visit www.evergladesradionetwork.org.
